The Lighthouse Regional Development Portal
Light Web's Lighthouse Regional Development software originated from the competitive and challenging Inner City Council space (see home page for list of City Council websites), and has been refined and evolved over three years as a Community Building and Regional Development tool.
Our first client for this tool is Business Central Coast, which, funded by three local councils and the Department of State and Regional Development, initiated the Portal project. The portal, called Central Coast Online, can be seen at http://www.cconline.com.au and has many interesting sub-portals being built.
Wollumbinlight Community Portal
Light Web is also sponsoring the launch of the Wollumbinlight Portal at http://www.wollumbinlight.org, a community portal and regional economic development system for the Northern Rivers of Australia. Wollumbinlight gets is name from the Wollumbin Bioregion, which is the region surrounding Mt, Warning, which the aboriginals call Wollumbin. The bio-region stretches over the border of NSW into Queensland, and the Wollumbinlight Portal will also follow the bioregional boundary.
Wollumbinlight already has two profile sub-portals associated with it, Byron United (the progressive morph of the Byron Bay Chamber of Commerce into a pro-active body), and the Sustainability Research Institute, a CSIRO-recognised research organisation which forms one of the foundations of the sustainability movement in Byron Bay. Many more sub-portals are to be added in the coming months.
Light Web will be providing sub-portals for free to non-profit organisations in the Northern Rivers region, and is just initiating a media campaign for this purpose.
The portal software has numerous revenue-generating streams associated with it, but Light Web's director Marc Gimbrere emphasizes that the Wollumbinlight portal is meant to be a true community portal, granting access to all types of users, which is why Light Web is willing to give away such a complex product to the region.
More Information
The portal software has been designed to showcase community's knowledge, their art, their inventions...and to help them network and connect themselves to the world community. Once a user is granted "Contributor" status, they can build out their own section of the website, and even manage other contributors. Over time the community portal is built out to form the beginnings of a network of information spanning all of our rich and varied abilities.

For one of our first community venture, we used the Light Web website to help organise Byron Bay's Living Together Gatherings. Click on the link to the right, or the Forum link at the top of this website, to find out more.
